Just for Uncle Larry....

We've decided the baby's nickname will be.......Bob Jr.

For the rest of the freinds and family that have NO CLUE what Im talking about, and are curious why would I ever give my child a nickname like this, here is a short story.

When David and I were dating and still in high school, my Uncle Larry and Aunt Susie came to visit us in New Orleans. My dad took all of us out on the paddlewheels boat for the dinner cruise, and he had Dean, the other chief engineer, working that night. My dad was giving us the nickle tour of the boat and the engine room and such. We happen to run into Dean right outside of the engine room, and my dad starts introducing Larry, Susie, he knows me and my mom, and then he gets to David. His mind goes BLANK and he can not remember David's name. So what comes out? "This is Bob." From then on, David has been known as Bob to a few of my family members.

Uncle Larry, I hope you got a good laugh on this one! Miss you guys!

Kicking Caleb...

Ive been feeling Caleb move for quite some time now, its a wonderful feeling! David has been feeling his movements for about 3 weeks. Of course you must learn to be patient when waiting for Caleb to kick you.
I will poke him, very gently of course, hoping for him to kick back. Sometimes he does and sometimes he doesnt. David will come home and tell Caleb all about his day and wait for his kick. I think he knows hes waiting...lol As soon as David moves his hand, he kicks. Caleb is playing with his daddy. There are times though when I feel Caleb being very active and David is able to feel his movements. I cant tell just yet whether I feel movement from a hand or foot. I just know I feel a pretty good "jump".
The other day Caleb was dancing the salsa on my bladder. I had just gone to the restroom, and yet every few minutes I would feel a pang on my bladder making it feel like I had to go back.

What will we call the baby????

Caleb Micah James

24 weeks - 6 months already!

Time sure has flown by! It feels like just yesterday I found out I was pregnant. Ive taken another belly shot for those who have requested ;-P Its getting there, still dont have that round look, but thats ok. Went to the doc this week for a check-up, everything is good. Im up 8 pounds, which brings my total gain in this pregnancy to.......8 pounds! Thats right, I had not gained any weight until just recently...lol

Here is whats going on in week 24 with me and the baby:
How your baby's growing:
Your baby's growing steadily, having gained about 4 ounces since last week. That puts him at just over a pound. Since he's almost a foot long (picture an ear of corn), he cuts a pretty lean figure at this point, but his body is filling out proportionally and he'll soon start to plump up. His brain is also growing quickly now, and his taste buds are continuing to develop. His lungs are developing "branches" of the respiratory "tree" as well as cells that produce surfactant, a substance that will help his air sacs inflate once he hits the outside world. His skin is still thin and translucent, but that will start to change soon.
In the past few weeks, the top of your uterus has risen above your belly button and is now about the size of a soccer ball.

And the buying begins....

So now that we know the sex of the baby, the urge to buy is un-controllable. There are so many cute things out to buy, and I want to BUY IT ALL! What we have purchased (or decided to purchase) are the crib, dresser, bedding set, and very few cute onsies. My dad will actually be making a chest (think blanket chest) and it should match the furniture in the baby's room, if not, I dont care. I know it will be beautiful.
Ive attached the pics below. I will of course take pics of the nursery when its complete in the summer.
Of course our baby boy would NOT be complete without the PROPER football attire. As most of you know David is a TRUE Saints fan, our little boy will learn to love (or love to hate) the Saints (see the last pic). This will be his Sunday dress (for about 10 min, then he will get it dirty...lol)

Drum Roll Please!!!!

David and I went to our 2nd trimester ultrasound. We had horrible weather yesterday. See to the left my mid-20 week belly pic, with tighter shirts you can start to tell. We decided to find out the sex of the baby. As you can clearly tell from the pics below......its a BOY!!!!!!!! David and I are BEYOND excited! This is the 1st boy grandchild AND (most importantly) the 1st born to be a boy into a family from the James and Heim chain!

Everything looks great with regards to the baby. 2 arms, 2 legs, 10 fingers, 10 toes, 4 heart chambers, bones look good so far. Everything is developing nicely. Our little boy weights 14 ounces and is about 7 1/2 inches long from crown to rump.

20 weeks = Half-way!!!!

So Ive reached 20 weeks, the half-way point. Im so thankfull and thrilled Ive made it this far. Still feeling the bubbles, I know soon they will turn into kicks. Hopefully soon David will be able to feel them. I hope to take a belly pic next week when we get our ultrasound done (3/26/09). Stay posted for the pics!!! Ive attached a summary below on what should be going on this week.

Congratulations! This week marks the half way point of your pregnancy. It has been 18 weeks since the date of conception and your baby's crown-to-rump length is 5.6 to 6.4 inches (the length of a banana). The fetus weighs about 9 ounces and your belly definitely has an obvious bulge. Your waistline has expanded and is no longer visible. Your uterus has now moved up enough that it is pushing your abdomen outwards. The top of your uterus is even with or just below your navel.

For the remainder of your pregnancy, the growing uterus puts pressure on your lungs, stomach and kidneys. This will make you feel short of breath, the need to urinate more frequently and can cause indigestion. The added pressure on your abdomen can also cause your bellybutton to protrude and cause an `outy` instead of an `inny`. Many pregnant women begin to notice stretch marks around this time as well. Your abdominal muscles are being stretched and pushed apart as your baby grows inside of you.

Your baby's skin begins to thicken this week and will develop four layers. Your baby's sebaceous glands secrete a waxy substance called vernix caseosa. Your baby will be born with this wax and it will look like paste. The vernix caseosa is crucial because it protects the fetus' fragile skin from the continuous immersion in amniotic fluid. Lanugo hairs secure the vernix caseosa in place and it is thick around the eyebrows. Scalp hair and toenails are beginning to form at this point. Hair can also be seen on the upper lip and eyebrows.

Movement!

Im almost 19 weeks and I finally felt the baby move. Ive been waiting for this for awhile, and knew being a 1st time mom, it might take a bit longer. Well last night I felt him/her move. I had eaten something that upset my stomach yesterday and I was paying for it last night. As most 1st moms do, they dismiss possible movement as an upset stomach. Well I actually had both. My upset stomach pressure and pain subsided, but I still felt that "upset stomach feeling", but there was no pain or pressure accompanied with it. Then it clicked!!!! Thats the baby moving!!! Ive had this feeling for a while now and just brushed it off for nerves with my new job or it must be something I ate. So now that I "know" the feeling, Im feeling the baby about 30 min after I eat, or drink something with caffine in it. Its very exciting, and I cant wait til David gets to feel the baby move.

We also should be able to hear the heartbeat with a stehoscope in the next few weeks! My next appt. is on the 26th for the ultrasound! Stay posted after the 26th for an update with pics!

Belly Pics are Here!!!

Here are the belly pics as requested. The 1st is 8 weeks, the next is 12, and the last is 17. Im probably almost ready to "pop". I can actually still "mask"the pregnancy, wearing certain clothes just makes me look a little chunky in the mid-section.
